Hello, I’m Ruth McGrady, a Wiltshire-based Pet Artist.
For over two decades, I’ve made my home and built my career in Wiltshire. However, my passion for creativity was kindled during my upbringing in woodlands of Bedfordshire where I grew up. Surrounded by the ever-changing beauty of the seasons, I found endless inspiration to paint.
Growing up in such a setting provided ample space for a variety of pets, each of whom became a subject in my early artworks. My affection for animals has been a constant throughout my life.
How Did I Begin Painting Pets Professionally?
It was a serendipitous turn of events, the universe doing what it does!. While working as a Development Coach, I decided to surprise a friend with a painting of her dog. Her heartfelt reaction, including joyful tears, led her to share the artwork on Facebook. This gesture caught the attention of her friends, resulting in my first commission to paint two dogs. From there, my journey as a pet portrait artist unfolded.
Why Do I Paint Pets?
The answer is simple: I love it. Bringing joy to people through art is incredibly fulfilling. Witnessing clients’ reactions—whether tears, speechlessness, or radiant smiles—when they see their finished painting for the first time is priceless. Achieving a 100% “cry-rate” is a testament to the emotional impact of these portraits.
If you have a cherished animal companion, regardless of size, that you’d like immortalized on canvas, feel free to reach out. Together, we can capture their essence in a timeless piece of art.
